The Government of India has once again done a digital strike in view of the fraud on the Internet. The Government of India has closed 83,668 WhatsApp accounts involved in cyber crime. Along with this, more than 3962 Skype IDs have also been closed. The Home Ministry gave this information in the Rajya Sabha.
More than 7 lakh SIMs blocked
Along with this, the government released data and said that till February 28, more than 7.81 lakh SIM cards have been blocked. At the same time, more than 2.08 lakh IMEI numbers have been closed. This action has been taken after the continuous fraud on the Internet. More than 13.36 lakh complaints were received regarding this, on the basis of which a loss of Rs 4389 crore has been avoided.
The government is preparing a system
The Home Ministry further said that the Central Government and Telecom Service Provider (TSP) have prepared a system to identify and block international spoof calls. When such calls come, the mobile display shows an Indian number, while the call is coming from somewhere abroad. TSPs have been instructed to block such calls. Apart from this, a toll-free helpline number 1930 has been started for complaints of cyber crime.
Fraud of more than 30 thousand in 2023
A report of the Reserve Bank shows that during 2023, fraud of more than Rs 30 thousand crores took place in the country. At the same time, in the last 10 years, banks reported 65,017 cases of cyber fraud. In which a total loss of Rs 4.69 lakh crore was incurred.
