The new criminal law will come into effect in India from July 1. The Central Government has issued its notification. Now Indian Justice Code will be implemented in place of Indian Penal Code (IPC), Indian Civil Defence Code will be implemented in place of Criminal Procedure Code and Indian Evidence Act will be implemented in place of Evidence Act.
What major changes took place in the Indian Judicial Code?
20 new crimes have been added to the Indian Code of Justice (BNS)
Provision for punishment on organized crime, mob lynching.
Documents include electronic and digital records.
19 provisions present in IPC have been removed.
The prison sentence has been increased in 33 crimes.
The penalty has been increased in 83 crimes.
There is a provision for punishment of community service in six crimes.
