A government holiday has been declared in Punjab on 6 December on the occasion of Martyrdom Day of Shri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji. Due to this, government offices, boards, corporations and other institutions will remain closed. Let us tell you that earlier this holiday was declared on 24 November 2024. It has now been changed to 6 December 2024.
Along with this, the Chandigarh Administration has also issued a holiday notification on the occasion of Martyrdom Day of Shri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji. According to the notification, all government offices, boards, corporations and other institutions of Chandigarh Administration will remain closed on 6 December.
Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, the Ninth Guru of Sikhism
Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji was the ninth Guru of Sikhism, remembered for his courage, sacrifice and protection of religion. He was born on 1 April 1621 in Amritsar, Punjab to Guru Hargobind Ji and Mata Nanaki. His original name was 'Tyag Mal', but due to his heroic deeds and unparalleled sacrifice, he was given the title of 'Tegh Bahadur', which means 'possessor of the sharp sword.'
