The matter of giving space to Haryana's assembly in Chandigarh is continuously increasing. Now Punjab's Finance Minister Harpal Cheema has given his statement on this matter. He said that Chandigarh belongs to Punjab and is also the capital of Punjab. Haryana has no right to build an assembly in Chandigarh. Chandigarh belongs to Punjab. We are not ready to give even an inch of land to Haryana.
10 acres of land has been sought from the Governor
Harpal Cheema said that the Haryana government sent a proposal to the Governor and said that you give us 10 acres of land, we will give you 12 acres of land in Panchkula. However, the Haryana government did not tell in the proposal why they are asking for land. But their purpose is that they want to build their assembly in Chandigarh. Regarding this, we have met the Governor and expressed our opposition.
Punjab's right on Chandigarh
He further said that we have given a memorandum to the Governor. He has also cited the act when Punjab and Haryana were separated. He said that in the Sant Longewala agreement with Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, it was clearly stated that Chandigarh belongs to Punjab and will be given to Punjab only.
They are occupying the capital of Punjab
Harpal Cheema said that when Punjab-Haryana were separated, it was decided that Haryana will make its own assembly. But now after 60 years, they are trying to capture the capital of Punjab. Haryana should make its assembly on the same land in Panchkula that it is talking about giving.
