In Rajasthan, a Gursikh girl was not allowed to appear for the judicial examination conducted by the Public Service Commission. Because the Gursikh girl was wearing a kirpan. As soon as the matter came to light, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) condemned it and also expressed protest against asking the girl to take off the kirpan.
Legal action should be taken against the officials of the examination centre
Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami said that stopping the Gursikh girl from going to the exam centre is a violation of the Constitution. We oppose this in the strongest terms. Strict legal action should be taken against the examination centre officials who stopped the Gursikh girl from taking the judicial exam.
The Constitution of India gives Sikhs the right to keep kirpans
He further said that according to the Constitution of India, Sikhs have full right to wear Kirpan and as per Sikh Rahat Maryada, no Amritdhari Sikh can remove the five Sikh Kakars from his body.
Such treatment of Sikhs is condemn-able
He said that although everyone knows that Kirpan is a part of the five virtues of Sikhs and is also an expression of Sikh identity, fundamental rights, yet treating Sikhs with hatred is highly condemn-able.
