A stampede took place in Sangam Nose area at around 1:30 am on the night of Mauni Amavasya (January 28) in Maha Kumbh. According to the government, 30 people died in the accident, and about 60 people are injured.

After the stampede on Mauni Amavasya bath, the police have now started preparations for Vasant Panchami and Maghi Purnima bathing festivals. Also, Municipal Commissioner Chandra Mohan Garg held a meeting with the Municipal Corporation officials on Friday evening. The Municipal Commissioner directed all the officials to remain in alert mode for both the bathing festivals. In view of the possible crowd coming on both the bathing festivals, the Municipal Commissioner has directed to increase the holding area and toilets in the meeting.
Steps taken in security and arrangements
The UP government has deployed two senior IAS officers for crowd control and smooth arrangements. Both the IAS officers had taken charge in the Ardh Kumbh of the year 2019. Lakhs of devotees are coming to the Maha Kumbh, in view of which these arrangements are being made. Effective crowd control arrangements are being made at major ghats and Sangam area. Also, new routes are being made to streamline the movement of the crowd. The emergency response system has been strengthened, so that immediate action can be taken in any situation.
Inspector suspended for putting ash in the food of devotees
At the same time, the inspector who put ash in the bhandaara being made for the devotees coming to Mahakumbh has been suspended. According to the information, on Thursday, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav shared the video on X. People also expressed their displeasure by sharing the video on social media. After this, Soraon police station in-charge Brajesh Tiwari, who put ash, was suspended.
