There has been a demand in the British Parliament for an apology from India for the Jallianwala Bagh incident. This demand has been made by British Conservative Party MP Bob Blackman. He said that the British government should officially apologize to India. This apology should be sought before 13 April.
Jallianwala Bagh massacre is a blot on the British Empire
MP Blackman said that the Jallianwala Bagh massacre is like a blot on the British Empire. In this massacre 1500 people including children and women were killed and more than 1200 people were injured. General Dyer defamed the British Empire by putting this blot on it.
He further said that can we expect a statement from the government that what happened in Jallianwala Bagh was wrong and was a formal apology sought from the people of India for this.
Apology has not been sought from India yet
The British PM has mentioned the Jallianwala Bagh massacre many times and has called it a blot on the British Empire and shameful. But till now no British PM has apologized on this matter.
British PM David Cameron, who visited India in 2013, visited Jallianwala Bagh and called it shameful. In 2019, British PM Theresa May visited Jallianwala Bagh on its 100th anniversary and called it shameful and a black spot. But neither of them apologized for this.
