BCCI suggests security measures to take care of bowlers interests: 37 matches have been played so far in the current season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Batsmen have dominated in these matches. Sunrisers Hyderabad has scored more than 250 thrice this season. The rain of fours and sixes may entertain the audience but former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar is not happy with it.Gavaskar has openly expressed his displeasure. Gavaskar has also warned the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and suggested security measures to take care of the interests of the bowlers.
The length of the boundary should be increased
Gavaskar has requested the BCCI to increase the length of the boundary by pushing the ropes and advertising boards back a little further. Gavaskar said that he would not suggest any changes in the cricket bats as they are all within the rules. But I have been saying for a long time that the size of the boundary on every ground should be increased. Moving the boundary line back a few meters can often prove to be the difference between a catch and a sixer.
Only the bowlers will suffer
Gavaskar said that moving the boundary line back by 2-3 meters will make a difference. If no measures are taken then only the bowlers will suffer. Gavaskar admitted that power-hitting in the IPL can be exciting at times,But it eventually becomes boring, highlighting the lack of competition between the batsmen and bowlers. What we have been seeing in T20 cricket in the last few days is such batting that the bat is swung in the nets without any fear of being out.
4 centuries have been scored so far
So far 4 centuries have been scored in IPL-2024. Virat Kohli, Jos Buttler, Sunil Narine and Travis Head have scored centuries so far. RCB batsman Virat Kohli has scored the maximum 379 runs so far this season. He has an orange cap. Mumbai Indians' Bumrah tops the list of bowlers taking the most wickets in this IPL with 13 wickets. The economy rate is also excellent and less than six runs have been spent per over amidst the explosion of batsmen.
