America has also jumped into the diplomatic tension between India and Canada once again over the murder of Khalistan supporter Hardeep Singh Nijjar. US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said that Canada's allegations are serious and advised India to cooperate in its investigation.
US spokesman Matthew Miller said that India needs to take Canada's allegations seriously. We wanted the Indian government to cooperate with Canada and its investigation, but the Indian government chose an alternative path.
Let us tell you that India has first and now again rejected Canada's allegations outright calling them baseless. After which, in response, India has asked six Canadian diplomats to leave India before 12 pm on October 19. After which the matter is complicated.
Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has said that Indian agents were involved in Nijjar's murder and warned that crimes like threatening or killing a Canadian citizen on their land will not be tolerated.
The Indian Foreign Ministry rejected this and clearly said that Trudeau is doing this for vote bank politics. After these allegations by Canada, India has also recalled its High Commissioner Sanjay Kumar Verma. India made it clear that it no longer trusts the current government of Canada.
America has intervened before as well
This is not the first time that America has commented on the tension between India and Canada. Last year, when Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused India of being involved in the murder of Nijjar in Parliament, America expressed concern over India's response. At that time India had asked 41 Canadian diplomats to go back. Even then Matthew Miller had said that America believes that India should cooperate in Canada's investigation.
Diplomatic crisis deepens between India and Canada
Amid the deepening diplomatic crisis between India and Canada over the Nijjar murder case, Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly requested the Canadian government to waive diplomatic immunity of six Indian diplomats so that investigating agencies can interrogate them. In this case, India did not do so, so the diplomats had to be expelled. In protest against which India has asked six Canadian diplomats to leave India by October 19.
What is the whole matter?
The main reason for the rift in diplomatic relations between Canada and India is related to the murder of Khalistan supporter Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Even though Nijjar is a Canadian citizen, India has declared him a terrorist. He was shot dead near a gurudwara in Surrey, British Columbia on June 18 last year.
Then on September 18, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused Indian agents of being involved in the murder of Nijjar. India has always rejected these claims of Canada as baseless.
