Today is the last day for filing nominations for the five municipal corporations and 44 council elections to be held on December 21 in Punjab. In such a situation, 22 IAS officers have been appointed as observers by the Election Commission. Out of these, 5 have been given the responsibility of municipal corporation elections and the remaining IAS officers have been deployed as observers in Nagar Panchayats.
Will take up duty from today
All the appointed IAS officers will take up their duties. The commission has given them orders that they have to play a special role in all the districts regarding law and order, election related complaints and code of conduct.
Municipal elections are being held in 5 districts
Let us tell you that municipal elections are being held in Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Phagwara and Patiala. There are about 37 lakh 32 thousand voters in these 5 cities, out of which 19.50 lakh are male and 17 are female voters. The polling time in these cities has been kept from 7 am to 4 pm. Earlier, voting used to take place from 8 am to 4 pm, but this time, 1 hour more time has been kept for voting.
