PM WANI is a public Wi-Fi service. This is to provide internet at a cheap price across the country. Under this scheme, about 5 crore public Wi-Fi service centers will be opened across the country. In this way, users will be able to use unlimited internet data at a very low price.
PM Modi wants to connect every citizen of the country digitally. However, expensive recharge plans are becoming a hindrance in this effort. This is the reason why the Modi government has come up with a new plan, under which 5 crore PM-Wi-Fi hotspots will be installed across the country. For this, the government has improved the PM-Wani framework guidelines. After this change by the government, any citizen will be able to install a personal Wi-Fi hotspot in his area.
What is PM Wani Wi-Fi
At present, mobile data is being provided through mobile towers across the country. But there are many areas in the country where the presence of mobile towers is less. In such a situation, there is no network in the mobile. Therefore, there is a problem in mobile calling and internet usage. But now through the PM Wani Wi-Fi scheme, the government is creating broadband Wi-Fi hotspots in every area, which will provide internet facility at a cheap price in a large area. The government believes that the big impact of this change will be seen in the world of mobile internet. Due to this, millions of micro Wi-Fi hotspots will be created across the country. Through this, cheaper internet data will be made available through broadband as compared to mobile towers.
Telecom companies rejected the claim
According to the report of Broadband India Forum (BIF), which represents telecom firms like Meta, Google, Amazon, TCS, the statements given by telecom companies are not correct. BIF said that PM-Wani is an important project and the government will not lose any revenue due to it. BIF believes that by installing 5 crore PM-Wani hotspots, telecom companies will be able to earn additional revenue of Rs 60,000 crore annually from bandwidth sales.
Telecom companies in trouble
Telecom companies like Jio, Airtel and Vodafone-Idea are afraid of losses due to PM Vani Wi-Fi hotspot. This is the reason why telecom companies are calling this scheme unnecessary. Let us tell you that in today's time, telecom companies are the only means of providing internet to the remote areas of the country. Telecom companies say that this plan is expected to reduce the revenue of the government.
Millions of people will get cheap internet
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has amended the guidelines for Pradhan Mantri Wi-Fi Access Network Interface (PM-WANI) allowing roaming between Public Data Office Aggregators (PDOA), removing the requirement for a commercial agreement between the telco and the PDO. Also, PDOs have been allowed to accept mobile data offload from telcos, which will help reduce congestion on mobile networks. BIF said these changes will open the way for affordable internet for millions of people.
PM Vani was started four years ago
The full form of PM WANI is Pradhan Mantri Wi-Fi Access Network Interface, which was launched on 9 December 2020. Under this, broadband service was to be expanded through public Wi-Fi network. In simple words, internet will be made available to all citizens through Wi-Fi. The central government is calling it Wi-Fi revolution.
Trying to speed up PM Wani
In today's time, laptops, tablets, computers and smart TVs are connected to mobile internet. In such a situation, mobile data becomes insufficient. In such a situation, broadband service becomes necessary. In this case, PM WANI can prove to be an effective step. The Union Cabinet has approved the Prime Minister Wi-Fi Access Network Interface (PM-WANI). But in the few years since its launch, the speed has been slow. In such a situation, the government is trying to speed up PM WANI after making some changes. This will promote wireless internet connectivity in the country.
