Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has resigned. Trudeau said this in a press conference outside his house in Ottawa. Trudeau said that he is resigning from the post of party leader and Prime Minister. The party will choose its next leader. According to media reports, there are many names in the Liberal Party like Foreign Minister Melanie Joly, Dominic LeBlanc, Mark Kani who can replace Trudeau.

Trudeau was being pressured by his Liberal Party MPs to resign. After his strongest team member, the Finance Minister, resigned from his post, the pressure to leave the post increased even more. Chrystia Freeland has been considered Trudeau’s most influential and loyal minister. She resigned last month. Parliamentary elections are to be held in Canada this year, which may now be held before time.

24 MPs of Trudeau’s party had publicly demanded his resignation in October. Anger against Trudeau is also increasing among the people in Canada.

Currently, the Liberal Party has 153 MPs in the Parliament House of Commons. There are 338 seats in the House of Commons in Canada. The majority figure is 170. Last year, the Trudeau government’s ally New Democratic Party (NDP) withdrew the support of 25 MPs. NDP is the party of pro-Khalistani Canadian Sikh MP Jagmeet Singh. However, the Trudeau government had passed the floor test. The people of Canada are angry with Trudeau because of the ever-increasing inflation and people from other countries living in Canada.

Trudeau is contesting for the post of Prime Minister for the fourth time. In the last 100 years, no Prime Minister has won the election for four consecutive times in Canada. Trudeau’s Liberal Party does not have a majority on its own in the Parliament
