The gay parade scheduled for April 27 in Amritsar has been postponed. The parade has been cancelled after objections raised by Sikh groups. The organisers themselves gave this information through social media. They said that the safety of their members is their first priority.

Do not want to hurt anyone’s feelings

The organisers of this parade have revealed that they are cancelling this parade. Releasing a letter, they wrote – ‘Ridham Chadha and I, Ramit Seth, are the organisers of Pride Parade Amritsar. We are a student organisation and have been organising peaceful parades in Amritsar since 2019 to connect and uplift the LGBTQIA community. We are especially focusing on transgender people and their rights in the city. We have also supported many people with guidance counselling and job opportunities in the past and have received positive responses for this everywhere. Due to the protests this year, we have to announce that we are cancelling Pride Amritsar which was scheduled to be held on 27 April 2025 at Rose Garden. Our intention is not to hurt the sentiments of any religious or political group. The safety of our people is our first priority and we are taking steps to keep them safe.

Parade was opposed

Let us tell you that Sikh organization leader Paramjit Singh Akali had opposed this parade. He had said that Amritsar is a holy city for the people of Sikh religion and this city is associated with religious heritage like Sri Harmandir Sahib. In such a situation, no such event will be organized here which hurts religious sentiments. He has described this parade as hurtful. Such events will not be allowed in a religious city. Earlier also the Sikh community has stood for the sanctity of a city like Amritsar and will stand in future also. In such a situation, it is better that the administration itself comes forward for this and stops such programs from happening in Amritsar.
