Lawyers are on strike in Punjab today and they will not do any work. A lawyer was attacked during the Municipal Council elections held in Sri Fatehgarh Sahib. Lawyers are angry against the police for not taking strict action on this. This is why all the lawyers of Punjab have gone on strike today.

Attacked with the butt of a revolver

Actually, during the Municipal Council elections, lawyer Hasan Singh was attacked by MLA Gary Vading’s brother and his associates. The attackers hit him on the head with the butt of a revolver and also attacked him with sharp weapons. The seriously injured lawyer has been admitted to the hospital.

Accused of not taking action against the police

According to Khanna Bar Association President Tejpreet Singh Atwal, the police was avoiding action by making an excuse of being busy in the martyrdom meeting. The lawyers wrote a letter to the DGP Punjab and also met the SSP, who had assured action, but due to political pressure, no action has been taken yet.

Hearing of more than 500 cases affected

Due to the strike, hearing of more than 500 cases is getting affected daily in Khanna alone. On 9 January also, lawyers had gone on a statewide strike and staged a sit-in outside the SSP office in Fatehgarh Sahib. Now today on 16 January, lawyers from all over Punjab are once again on strike demanding justice.
