On the Chaturdashi date of Krishna Paksha of Falgun month, Lord Shiva left renunciation and entered the household life and married Goddess Parvati. For this reason, Mahashivratri is celebrated every year as the wedding festival of Shiva-Gauri. Shiva Vivah is organized in temples on this day.
