A vibrant and historic celebration took place in Leicester when the Brits Desi Society organised its first grand Holi Mela, celebrating the festival in a unique way with flowers instead of the traditional colours.

The event saw a live music band performing Holi-themed and Indian cultural songs, adding to the excitement of the atmosphere. Little children showcased their talents through captivating dance performances including Kathak, Bhangra, Indian classical and Bollywood dance.

Foodies relished authentic Indian cuisine as food stalls served a variety of Gujarati and Punjabi delicacies along with freshly squeezed fruit juices.

All communities gathered on one platform

Rishu Walia, President of the Brits Desi Society, successfully brought various communities under one roof to celebrate cultural harmony. A special highlight of the event was the participation of the Nepali community, whose children performed traditional Nepali dances, adding to the multicultural spirit of the event.

The event was graced by the presence of Lord Mayor of Leicester Bhupen Dave and Lady Mayoress Usha Dave as chief guests. Other special guests included

The event was full of entertainment, and the joyous atmosphere reached its peak when guests started dancing to Punjabi tunes, making it a truly unforgettable celebration.

The Brits Desi Society’s Grand Holi Mela set a new milestone for Leicester’s multicultural celebrations, promoting unity and cultural appreciation in the community.
