Orders have been issued to keep meat, fish and egg shops, hawkers, non-veg hotels, dhabas and aahats closed on April 10 in Sangrur, Punjab. Additional District Magistrate Sangrur Amit Bambi has issued orders to keep these shops closed in Sangrur on April 10, using the powers conferred under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Security Code (BCSC), 2023.

The order states that the birth anniversary of Lord Mahavir Swami Ji, the 24th Tirthankara of Jainism, will be celebrated as Non-Violence Day on April 10, 2025. According to religious traditions, killing any living being on the day of Mahavir Jayanti is considered inauspicious. Killing any living creature on this day can hurt the religious sentiments of the people and anti-social elements can also take advantage of this situation.

Strict action will be taken against violators

These orders have been implemented with the aim of maintaining peace and law and order. The district administration has made it clear that strict action will be taken against those who violate this order. The police administration and the concerned departments have been instructed to ensure strict compliance of these orders.
